 working for un-beet-able meals

Few things first

We love our lunch ladies and the dedicated personnel of the School Food Service. We know they are doing an incredible job with a very tight budget so we are here to help.

We also know very well that for too many children in the United States school meals are the most nutritious meal they have access to in a day.

Because we know that the way we eat reflects the way our brain and body function, we want to elevate the quality of school lunches.

A free meal doesn't a mean poor quality meal.

Providing quality school meals while creating good-paying jobs, supporting local farmers, and supporting the environment is doable and we want to make it happen.

Starting here, in Baltimore, MD.

REality vs photo op

Reality

How do you feel when this is your meal?

Multiply that feeling for every child in school in Baltimore! This is a real meal sent home to every child when schools were closed or at the local Recreation Center.

Is it healthy?

Is it appealing?

Is it tasty?

Will you eat it?

Great light, great photographer, nowhere to be found in schools!

Let's try to answer the same questions now:

Is it appealing?

Is it tasty?

Will you eat it?

How do you feel looking at it if this is your meal?

About Us

We are Monica (mom, activist, food and Baltimore lover) and Matteo, (a freshman at City College, a future video maker, and a fan of Erricka Bridgeford). Our life and memories revolve around the kitchen and the dinner table and food is the way we show love to our people.

Tired of talking about the poor quality of our school meals, we want to show you the truth and what it is possibile when people want to make a change.

Monica (Mom), is the founder of Be a Chef for a Day (www.bacfadbeat.org) a program promoting cooking education in school together with nutrition and health education. The kids in her classes cook real meals. And they like it! I (Matteo) cook with her in class every time I can.
